The Single-Roll Polishing Machine is a high-performance surface finishing machine specifically designed for pile fabrics, knitted fabrics, and non-wovens. Its core function is to enhance fabric quality by using a large, heated metal roller to iron and polish the fabric surface under precisely controlled temperature, pressure, and speed. This process aligns and smooths surface fibers through combined thermal and mechanical action, resulting in a polished, flattened, lustrous, and softened finish.

a. Main Heated Roller

Material: High-strength, high-thermal-conductivity alloy steel or special cast iron. The surface is precision-ground and hard-chrome plated for exceptional smoothness, wear resistance, and uniform heat transfer.

Heating Methods:

Electric Heating: Internal resistance heating elements with multi-zone temperature control. Offers precise temperature regulation and a clean, environmentally friendly operation.

Gas Heating: Internal combustion chamber for high thermal efficiency and lower operating costs. Requires an exhaust system.

Temperature Range: Typically adjustable from ambient to 250°C with high precision to suit the heat-setting requirements of different fibers (e.g., polyester, acrylic, cotton).

b. Fabric Conveyance and Pressure System

Infeed Unit: Equipped with a constant-tension unwinder and automatic edge guiding system to ensure flat fabric entry.

Brush Roller/Conveyor Blanket:

Located beneath or around the heated roller, made from heat-resistant synthetic fibers (blanket) or metal/nylon brushes.

Its primary function is to gently "press" or "support" the fabric against the hot roller surface. The applied pressure is adjustable. Higher pressure flattens the pile for more shine, while lower pressure primarily polishes.

Outfeed and Cooling: The finished fabric passes over cooling rollers or through an air cooling zone to set the finish and prevent heat buildup that could affect hand feel or subsequent winding.

c. Drive and Control System

Drive System: Utilizes inverter-controlled motors for stepless and synchronized speed regulation of both the main roller and conveyor systems.

Control System:

PLC + Touchscreen HMI: Forms the central control unit.

Key Control Parameters: Heated roller temperature (multi-zone display/control), machine speed, gap/pressure between brush roller/blanket and hot roller.

Features: Stores multiple finishing recipes, provides real-time operational monitoring, and includes fault diagnosis and alarm functions.

The polishing effect is determined by the synergy of three main parameters:

• Temperature: Determines the degree of fiber softening. Too low is ineffective; too high can damage fibers or harden the fabric.
• Speed: Determines the fabric's exposure time to heat. Slower speeds increase the polishing effect.
• Pressure/Gap: Determines the intensity of mechanical action. Higher pressure yields a flatter, shinier pile; lower pressure maintains more loft.

Multiple passes (e.g., first against the nap, then with the nap) are often used to achieve the optimal balance of hand feel and luster.
